Dr.R.Asokan did his MBBS from Thanjavur Medical College (1982-1987) and emerged as the best outgoing student of the batch with many gold medals and credits. Subsequently he did his D.C.H (Diploma in Child Health) at B.J.Medical College, Pune (1989-1991) and continued the golden streak with one another gold medal. After a brief stint as lecturer at PSG Medical College in 1991-1992, joined his master degree and completed his M.D (Ped) at Madras Medical College, Institute of Child Health, & Hospital for Children, The Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R Medical University (1992-1994). Subsequently, he cleared the prestigious D.N.B (Ped) Exams in 1994 with aplomb.
He also underwent a special training in Kangaroo Mother Care program at Bogotá, Colombia, South America under the auspices of the UNICEF and SNL (Save Newborn Life).
Experience
He joined Tamil Nadu Government Medical Service and worked as Assistant Professor in various hospitals in Chennai, Govt. R.S.R.M. Hospital, Maternity Hospital, Govt. Hospital for Women & Children Chennai. He joined various private hospitals in Chennai like Kanchi Kamakoti Childs Trust Hospital (KKCTH), Sooriya Hospital, Amma Hospital as visiting consultants and had been managing sick preterms, newborns and children and has gained vast experience in diagnosing and managing them.
He had been a reputed teacher for undergraduate, postgraduate students in Pediatrics & Obstetrics, nursing students and trainer for various government programs like RCH (Reproductive & Child Health programme), CSSM (Child Survival & Safe Motherhood).
He is a teaching faculty for D.N.B (Neonatology) program at Kanchi Kamakoti Childs Trust Hospital, Chennai. He is also a national instructor in NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program). He is interested in new-born care, acute pediatrics, growth and development, vaccinology and high risk follow-up care.
He had served as Treasurer of Neonatology Association of Tamil Nadu from 2006 to 2013.
